Professor Jerzy Małachowski – Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

The Faculty Board Meeting – 20.04.2014.

The April Board of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering began with a special event. The Head of the Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science, Prof Tadeusz Niezgoda, DSc., Eng., handed over to the Dean of the Faculty an award of a vice prime minister, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Jarosław Gowin, in the form of a diploma and a statue for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Military University of Technology, for a special activity in the field of promotion of Polish science and outstanding inventive achievements.

The 23rd Exchange of Inventions 24-25.03.2016 – Copernicus Science Centre

The 23rd Exchange of Innovations awarded worldwide at fairs and exhibitions took place at Copernicus Science Centre venue on 24th and 25th March, 2016. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Military University of Technology, represented by Prof T. Niezgoda, was among the participants honoured with an award and a diploma granted by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education - Jarosław Gowin. However, it is not the only one award granted to Military University of Technology, including to our Department.

According to an official letter received in late March 2016, we are pleased to announce that on March 14th, 2016, the General Assembly of Engineering Academy in Poland, accepted DSc., Eng., Wiesław Barnat, the Professor of Military University of Technology, as a full member of the Engineering Academy in Poland.

Precious engraving handed to the Rector-Commander of Military University of Technology

We are pleased to inform that on 29th December 2015, a delegation from the Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science – Prof. Tadeusz Niezgoda, D.Sc., Eng., and Grzegorz Sławiński, PhD., Eng., handed to Rector-Commander, prof. Zygmunt Mierczyk, D.Sc., Eng., a special engraving. It was painted on silk in Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and called “Pejzaż 2010” (”Landscape 2010”) to honour the participants of Smolensk Conferences.

Visit of Americans – December 2015

On 17th December 2015, a meeting with a representative of Impera Alfa fund, Tomasz Jastrzębski, was held at the Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science, Military University of Technology. The Department was represented by Prof. Tadeusz Niezgoda and Danuta Miedzińska, Ph.D., Eng. The meeting concerned cooperation aimed at financing and implementing projects related to, among others, renewable energy.

Prestigious Distinction for Prof. Barnat, 2015.

We are pleased to inform that December was also lucky for our Department. On November 20th, 2015, in Brussels, Wiesław Barnat, DSc., Eng., Professor of Military University of Technology, was awarded by the Supreme Decorations Commission of the Kingdom of Belgium with European Cross of Merit of the Order of Inventiveness in the Rank of Officer.

Day of National Education

On 14th October, 2015, our University celebrated a Day of National Education during which awards were granted, among others to Krzysztof Damaziak, Ph.D., Eng., from the Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science who received a diploma from the Chancellor for the best doctoral dissertation titled Modeling and testing of a brake linings wear process.

Successful IWIS 2015

The 9th edition of International Warsaw Invention Show “IWIS 2015” was held from 12th to 14th October, 2015, in the Main Hall of Warsaw University of Technology. It is an annual event organized by Association of Polish Inventors and Rationalizers in cooperation with Polish Patent Office and Warsaw University of Technology. As previous editions of the show, the last one also recognized the achievements of the team of the Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Military University of Technology, which received two gold medals with distinctions and a bronze medal.
A similar success was also achieved during INST Taipei International Invention Show and Technomart which has been organized since 2004 and is a superb platform for trade of international intellectual property and transfer of technology.

Defender 2015 Prize

International Defence Industry Exhibition, held from 1st to 4th September in Kielce Exhibition and Congress Centre, broke another record. The 23rd edition, during which 593 exhibitors from 30 countries presented their offers on the space of over 27 000 m2, has been indelibly imprinted in the history of Kielce Exhibition and Congress Centre. Poland was represented, among others, by our Department which received “Defender 2015”statuette.

Exhibition in Macau

It is our pleasure to inform that another exhibition of inventions - 2015 MACAU International Innovation & Invention Expo, held from 3rd to 5th July in Macau, ended with a medal success. The jury appreciated High Mobility Wheeled Platform – developed by a team: Wiesław Barnat, D.Sc., Eng (Military University of Technology), Przemysław Simiński (WITPiS Sulejówek), Grzegorz Szczęśniak (SZCZĘŚNIAK Pojazdy Specjalne Sp. z o.o.) – and granted a Silver medal and a certificate of appreciation.

Meeting of “STOW” Project Consortium

On 16-17.04 Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Military University of Technology hosted members of the consortium implementing project devoted to the development of small wind turbine, acronym STOW, conducted within the scope of the Polish-Norwegian Research Cooperation Programme.

Meeting of “Afghan” Project Consortium

On 26th March, 2015, at the Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science, there took place the 6th meeting of the Steering Committee of the project “Safety improvement and protection of soldiers on missions through operation in military – medical and technical areas” aiming at investigation of the effect of the blast wave induced by explosion on soldiers inside an armoured vehicle and development of mobile energy absorbing structures that better protect soldiers participating in fighting against explosion of mines and improvised explosive devices (IED).

K. Damaziak and P. Baranowski’s PhD Theses Public Defences

On 12th March 2015,there took place public defences of theses by Paweł Baranowski M.Sc., Eng., and Krzysztof Damaziak M.Sc., Eng. The first to defend his thesis titled “Modelling and Testing of a Brake Linings Wear Process” was Krzysztof Damaziak. After a short break, Paweł Baranowski defended his thesis titled “Rubber material study in terms of modelling of terrain vehicle tire subjected to impulse loading”.

Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science (Military University of Technology) and Centre of Advanced Energetic Technologies at CEE-SGOS 2015

Central and Eastern Europe Shale Gas and Oil Summit 2015 conference was held from 9th to 10th March 2015. It is a two-day conference and an exhibition aimed at revival and reinforcement of search for shale gas in Poland. The conference aims also at finding present and prospective opportunities for shale gas industry in Poland, bringing high rank politicians, experts, companies and together.

Siemens Industry Software in the Department of Mechanics and Computer Science

On 5th March 2015, in the Department of Mechanics and Computer Science, there took place a meeting with the representatives of Siemens Industry Software Sp. z o.o., the leading supplier of software and services. The aim of the talks was proposition of cooperation areas between Siemens and Military University of Technology, including education area and supporting research and development projects, application of IT tools supporting designing and virtualization of outcomes.

Release Gas, Trap C02

A new promising method of forcing gas from shale rock is underway by a team of Polish scientists. It will use supercooled CO2 that will expand in the hot conditions of shale rock deposits to release natural gas, itself remaining locked underground. Lab work has been done to good results and the method is set to hit the well pads in two years.

On 19th February 2015,a Letter of Intent between the Faculty of Management and Command of National Defence University and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Military University of Technology was officially signed at WAT registered office.

The successful Exchange

The 22nd Exchange of Inventions took place at Copernicus Science Centre venue on 17th and 18th February, 2015. Military University of Technology presented selected inventions, developed by science and research teams, awarded with medals at world innovations exhibitions in 2014, including a team: Gen. Working meeting with CFT PRECYZJA

On 21st January, we hosted the management of CFT Precyzja company. The meeting started with exchanging information on currently implemented projects and presentation concerning “Comparison of ballistic capabilities of Al203 and SiC” as well as the assumptions for the project: “Development of hybrid ballistic shield with limited fragmentation during multihitting” presented by Lt. Col., Ph.D., Eng., Andrzej Morka.

Receptive to Science – cooperation with Thales company

On 12th January 2015, in Warsaw, a cooperation agreement between Thales company and Military University of Technology was signed. The agreement provides for mutual science and research activity. Its scope will involve projects concerning, among others, space and satellite subjects. Cooperation with Military University of Technology will enhance an innovative development direction of Thales company and support development of Polish technological potential.

Christmas meeting at Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science

Annual Christmas meeting held at our Department, as every year, was well attended. Among the guests, there were our former employees, guests from institutions collaborating with us within different projects and the authorities of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Military University of Technology with the Dean – Zdzisław Bogdanowicz. Professor Niezgoda summed up the ending year with an extensive presentation on the most significant events of the year and presented the aims defined for the Team for the coming years.

Award for the best graduating work for MSc., Eng., Jakub Bukała

On 11.09.2014, during the sitting of Main Contest Committee selecting ”the best graduating work defended in Polish Technical Universities”, the works submitted to the final of 14th Edition of Contest of Association of Polish Engineers and Technician Mechanics were assessed. There were selected works qualified to the first prizes and distinctions. Among the award-winning, there was our Ph.D. student MSc., Eng., Jakub Bukała and his Ph.D. thesis supervisor Prof. Jerzy Małachowski. The ceremony took place on 9th December 2014 in Warsaw Technician House, Polish Federation of Engineering Associations (NOT).

Dean’s awards 2014

The Council of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, gathered in November, was preceded by a nice touch. The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Zdzisław Bogdanowicz, appreciated the research and scientific effort of the employees of the Faculty and decided to honour the merited people with suitable Dean’s awards. Among the honoured people were also the representatives of our Department who received the diplomas on their own behalf or on the behalf of research teams.

Cheaper and environmentally-safe: the future of Polish shale




The Polish shale gas sector has met with serious setbacks in recent years, both as a result of disappointing drilling results and disappointing legislation. However, the Polish government will introduce a new hydrocarbon bill that should make drilling more attractive. What is more, a Polish research consortium has developed a new, much cheaper and much more environmentally friendly method of extraction.
Dr Danuta Miedzińska from WAT is one of the leading researchers on the project and, in preview of the next year’s Central and Eastern European Shale Gas and Oil Summit in Warsaw at which she, professor Niezgoda and their team of researchers will represent their work, she spoke on the details regarding DIOX4SHELL.

8th International Warsaw Invention Show, which was held from 14th to 16th October in the assembly hall of Warsaw University of Technology, resulted for our Department in a gold medal with distinction and two bronze medals for team achievements. However, they were not the only distinctions.

From 14th to 16th October in the assembly hall of Warsaw University of Technology, there was held 8th International Warsaw Invention Show. Blue Gas Project is ours!

We are pleased to inform that The National Centre for Research and Development has announced today the results of 2nd Competition Blue Gas – Polish Shale Gas. The project of Military University of Technology titled Development of guidelines for design of innovative technology of shale gas recovery with the use of liquid CO2 on the base of numerical and experimental research – DIOX4SHELL prepared in the Centre of Advanced Energetic Technologies, Military University of Technology and in the Department of Mechanics and Applied Computer Science, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, under the guidance, in this case, of Prof. Tadeusz Niezgoda and Ph.D., Eng., Danuta Miedzińska was recommended to be financed.

KTO Rosomak - controlled destruction in Afghanistan - January 26, 2014.

Through the courtesy of Lt. Gen. Marek Tomaszycki, Operational Commander of Armed Forces, the researchers from the faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Military University of Technology: Lt. Col., Ph.D., Eng., Robert Panowicz, 2nd Lt., M.Sc., Eng., Piotr Kędzierski, Ph.D., Eng., Grzegorz Sławiński and Ph.D., Eng., Paweł Bogusz went to Afghanistan to participate in controlled damage of a wheeled armoured vehicle Rosomak in base of PMC-Afghanistan in Ghazni. The researchers from Military University of Technology brought a large number of research equipment items to record the most possible amount of data interesting for them.

Innovative wagon and intermodal transport system as an offer of Military University of Technology at “Trans – Poland” Expo XXI Exhibition

International Transport and Logistics Exhibition “Trans-Poland” was held at the Expo XXI Centre in Warsaw from 26th to 28th November 2013.The subject of the exhibition involved intermodal transport, i.e., transport of semitrailers, vehicles and containers; the importance of transporters and transport rolling stock, loading equipment, etc. Military University of Technology was represented at the exhibition by the Department of mechanics and Applied Computer Studies.

A very nice event for our academic community took place during 14th Metering of Tadeusz Sendzimir Honorary Medal Knights on 19th July, in AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow. This time, the reporters were interested in an exceptional invention, namely, A CASSETTE PONTOON BRIDGE FOR CONSTRUCTING MOBILE CROSSING BRIDGE CROSSINGS, which was awarded with a prestigious DEFENDER award at the 20th Jubilee International Defence Industry Exhibition [MSPO] 2012 in Kielce.
